The Brickyards

After the Fletton population increased due to the arrival of the ‘East Station’ the next significant development was the expansion of the brickyards. The Fletton brick industry comprised of numerous brickyards and names such as Hill, Itter, Craig, Gardener and Hicks are still familiar locally. The whole Peterborough area was known for it’s brickyards, and brickfields could be found in: Whittlesey, Yaxley, Woodston, Eye, Orton, Dogsthorpe and Norman Cross.
